CONVERSATIONS ON CULTURE
KEVIN JEROME EVERSON AND MATI DIOP
In collaboration with the Cinéma du Réel
March 15th, 7 p.m.
As part of the 41st edition of Cinéma du réel, the Center welcomes American filmartist Kevin Jerome Everson, in conversation with French filmmaker Mati Diop. Since the 1980s, Kevin Jerome Everson has irected nine feature films and more than one hundred and thirty short films, mostly based on capturing or staging the gestures, attitudes and postures of the black American working class. Everson offers another contemporary view of the United States, far from the clichés and dominant classes of the American dream. The work of Mati Diop mixes documentary and fiction, political and poetic reality, social context and reverie. This exceptional conversation between Everson and Diop will be an opportunity to confront their respective artistic visions and question their relationship to the image. Kevin Jerome Everson will be in Paris for his retrospective at Cinema du réel at the Centre Pompidou, during which his cinematographic work will be shown for the first time in France.
