On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition Wasteland: New Art from Los Angeles, artists Edgar Arceneaux, Amanda Ross-Ho, Lisa Anne Auerbach, and Daniel Joseph Martinez will be in conversation with Shamim M. Momim, curator of Wasteland and director of Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND). The mythic poem of modernity, The Waste Land, by T.S. Eliot, is the common thread that brings these artists together for this group exhibition. The artists explore the shared theme of poetic despair – the quest to find true connections, the instability of morals, and the uncertainty of the future – all elicited by the meeting of works at the heart of this exhibition. The artists will also discuss the influence of Los Angeles on their art, a city often described as a ‘cultural desert’.
