William Bolcom has won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Medal of Arts, two Grammy Awards, the Detroit Music Award and was named 2007 Composer of the Year by Musical America. Bolcom taught composition at the University of Michigan from 1973–2008. He studied at the Paris Conservatory under Milhaud, Messian, and Dutilleux. He is married to mezzo-soprano Joan Morris, with whom he forms a well-known cabaret duo. On the occasion of William Bolcom’s 75th birthday celebration, Le Piano Ouvert presented a cross-cultural collaboration to introduce the many facets of Bolcom’s music to the French public.
